Well, all I use is notepad. I don't think there are any "good" ASCII
art prorams out there (Excluding FIGlet), but you never know :)

What do you use to draw ascii art? Do you just look and "draw" or do you

I don't know about other people... but the "look and draw" technique
works pretty well for me.

Most people "just look and draw"; also doodle around, modify existing
drawings, and copy parts/techniques from them. Very large complicated
asciis may have started life as a photograph or original pencil drawing
put under a "grid" and redrawn as ascii (unfortunately, just converting
grey scale values into different shades won't give you prposefully drawn
shapes and edges: you end up redrawing the ascii from scratch traced
over the old drawing).

hmm, how about just a normal ms-dos edit or pcbedit (it's a simple full-screen
editor which understands pcboard @ macros, color codes.)

anyway whatever.

I've been hella impressed with a mIRC Add-on (only thing bad about it is u
need mIRC), it takes a bmp image and makes it into all letters with
appropriate colors (on HTML page)..I've uploaded it if u use IRC and want to
give it a spin:

Your best choice is probably JavE <http://www.jave.de> . It can do a lot more
than just convert images - it's a complete ascii-art painting package.
