 While I can see it might be Chinese, it also looks somewhat
 like the pictures of \/\/ill Shakespeare with his domed balding head.

 Not off hand, but web-search "William, Shakespeare, biography"
 should turn something up.  Shakespeare was the biggest thing
 in the literature of England at the time when corresponding 
 French stage writing was crap (don't know about the rest 
 of Europe in 16thC).  There are very few extant pictures 
 of him, and all come from the same 2 or 3 drawings, so
 you will soon see what I mean if you find a pic.
