My friends know I have a large collection of ascii art so they often
ask for pictures they need. When I don't have what they want and I
can't find it, I try to adapt a picture I have. As a last resort I
make one myself. I can manage big pictures a lot better than small
ones. This is the most unusual request I've ever gotten. My friend
names his computers ... and he wanted a login screen for his old 486

Extending this practice to Iain M. Banks's Culture ship names could be,
um, interesting..
I can't really supply any appropriate ascii art as I have a hard time even
imagining what a GSV would look like - I can visualize an Orbital, but
drawing one would be a pain. But the original subject of this thread

|Hmm.. That makes my computer names very boring.. "Server, Jope, Vehje,
|Laite, Boing, Momentum"
'--------------------------------
'boing' is my sort of name, actually :o)
.--------------------------------
|Vehje translates roughly to "thingamajig" and Laite is just machine or
|appliance.
'--------------------------------
'thingamajig' is also a good name!
.--------------------------------
|Guess which ones are the Amigas?-)
'--------------------------------
Jope and Boing? (I don't know how many Amigas you have, so can't guess
really!)
There are no Amigas on my network, although I do have two ... A500 and A500+
(lol) and I have an A1200 from time to time when I borrow it for various
reasons.
.--------------------------------
|Seems I'll have to come up with something interesting the next time I
|add a machine to my dns.. :-)
'--------------------------------
Well you keep well away from my names y'hear?
Incidentally, the place where I used to work had machines named after 'Mr
Men' (those book characters)
They start off OK, with mr-messy and mr-bump, but then they got carried away
and called them things like mr-tanaka (my old boss's machine) and ms-busty
(hmmm...) ... In a burst of imagination, mine was called mr-martin, although
now I don't work there anymore it's become the very dull 'support3' :o)

This is 'nurgled', although when I made the picture this is the only
computer I had. This is the one with the modem in it, that I use as a proxy
for the others when I can be bothered, but I usually just use it directly
since it's easier than wrestling with proxy settings. I'm typing this on
nurgled right now for precisely that reason.

(For those not familiar with them, the Amiga 500, 600 and 1200 had the motherboard under the keyboard in the same unit.) No wait, that was the A1200, not the A500.
