Colin Douthwaite <Col...@equinox.gen.nz> conjectures:
> [what the hell is this?]

It is symbolic of the never ending quest for knoweledge and the
wisdom to use it effectively without alienating the strata of human
existence that struggle within society. It represents that ever-so-
thin line between science and personal identity; between philosophy
and self-worth; it is that great question-mark that we, as a
society, collectively wake up to each and every morning. Its
simplistic elegance suggests to us that we must always strive for
ever higher peaks and then span the deep, darkened abysmal valleys
of ignorance, but that we must not lose our faith in humanity, in
all its multitudonousness.

Now, whaddya' say I won?

It's one of those things. You know, the ones you always need but
can never find? I know you know what I'm talking about, I just can't
remember the name. I used one just the other day, but now I can't
find it. I think I left it in the kitchen. Or maybe the garage.
No wait, it was the living room! I'm going to go look for it, bye.

This is a fragment of aborginal ascii-art from at Ayer's rock from
8000 BC according to Erich von Daniken in "Was God an Astronaut?",
and clearly shows we were being cruised by extra-terrestrials who
wanted to know if we had any good-looking sisters at home. The
whereabouts of the original drawing is a closely-guarded secret.

This is also discussed at length in "Was Daniken a Loony?" (various
authors).

Interest, I have, but an intimate education in that field, I have not. :(

I've checked the few books I have that contain photos of objects
found in Tutankhamen's tomb and such, but haven't found anything to
match this illustration. My best *guess* is that it may represent
something like an incense burner or braisier, but again, that is
merely a guess. As I have no idea what a "Doams Machine Mach 2"
might be, the guess and even my idea that this item should relate in
some manner with ancient Egypt could be way offbase. ;)

Perhaps someone else will see it and be able to reply more certainly

Piece of CAKE....not actually....that is to be taken as an expletive....

The great turkey has swallowed the Mayflower in hopes of reducing
it's future losses. It, rather than the obnoxious, show off bald
eagle, was predicted to be the Thanksgiving meal of the future in
the soon to be ripped Americas....

The great turkey is lying in the woods, attempting to digest the
noxious boat and it's anti-HR187 population.....and it's feathers
are rising vertically due to the various gasses developed in the
process.

You will note a wry smile on the face of the giant turkey, knowing
that the "People" will not lose their land, and the turkey
population will not be anually decimated in lustful
overindulgence....

The great turkey has also remembered that its progeny were to have
been stuffed with a mixture of bread and herbs, and instead it was
feeling rather stuffed with this wooden relic in it's dark
interior....

Rather than the shot heard around the world....history would record
the BELCH heard around the world....no one would ever take note that
toothpick like slivers would fly through the woods.....

The end
Gruffy of the Glacier!

The reason this has not been revealed before is that this is
classified invormation...let me explain:

This device was developed during the development of the "Clinton
Health Plan." It was becoming obvious to the 500 secret workers on
the plan, many of whom had direct interest in various aspects of
health, that the plan was more expensive than they thought.

Some of them turned in desperation to Mrs. Clinton for suggestions
on ways to cut expenses in other areas of the government to pay for
the new plan. She, in turn, called on Mr. Clinton for advise.

Of course we are all aware of President' Clinton's experience in
warfare. After considerable soul searching and head scratching, Mr.
Clinton remembered that a great deal of money could be diverted to
health from defense, if one could just eliminate expensive projects
in defense.

This particular design is one he designed and presented to the Joint
Chiefs of staff. That is why, to this point, it has been unknown. It
is Classified.

Their request is that this be considered as a New battle ship for
the fleets. It would eliminate the need for larger ships...

The premise is very simple, really. Being a student of History, and
having studied Greek History whilst at Oxford, Mr. Clinton became
aware of the incredible novelty of the "Trojan Horse" as it was used
at Troy in actual combat.

The principle was really very obvious. The concept would be perfect
for the navy. This would be a Trojan Ship, rather than horse.
Designed as a Giant Swan, it could slip unnoticed into harbours and
unleash small tactical ships to attack the enemy right in his own
harbours.

If it worked at Troy, it would be a "shoe-in" in enemy harbours. It
would have been the PERFECT way to enter Haiti the FIRST try. The
thugs at the docks in Port-au-Prince would have been hard pressed to
scare off such an innocuous thing as a Swan without looking like
very NASTY people.

When it is finished, it will be christened the USS Swan Song.

Yours in STARK revelation,
Glacier Gruff

is AMAZING....

You have here a sneak photo of the loading of Santa's sled....the elves
are busily cramming in a canoe for some wonderful child out there in
the farthest reaches of the trip, knowing it will be one of the LAST
objects off the sled before it returns to the polar regions for next
season's efforts....needless to say, the elves move so quickly they
couldn't be captured on ascii-film.

A research grant was let the year before last by the United States
Congress, encouraged by the then incumbent party, to discover the
real truth about this incredibly controversial drawing. Needless to
say, while some were pursuing the quantitization of outgassing from
Polled Herefords, others were studiously investigating this drawing
for the Plain, simple, Truth."

The conclusion by the committee that studied the material thus far
engendered in this debate was final. Their presentation to the House
Committee on Half-Ascii Drawings was that this was actually a
prototype of the first mamalian Chicken. They showed that it was
actually a side pocketed marsupial with a flap covering a teat for
little chickens. The side pocket was to be covered by a decorative
wing. Thus, Chickens can't fly.

Their studies completed, the Committee was scrapped by the new party
in Congress, but not before they commissioned a re-study of the
issue. More to come....

Your intrepid reporters were watching the film "Aladdin," and noticed
a very quick and subtle picture....subliminal....so, we warmed up our
ASCII camera and photographed the scene from the cartoon...in stop
motion on the VCR. A little thought revealed the answer:

The Genie has various recreational activities to maintain his
strength. One of those activities is rowing a boat, knowing that
to maintain his MASSIVE arms and MASSIVE stomach "6-pack," he has
to row regularly and maintain an aerobic pace.

In the picture...the genie was rowing. They accidentally showed
it in the cartoon...

Unfortunatly, this is NOT the case. We are certain you are all aware of
the amount of coal dust that collects in your average coal mine, or
dust dust that collects in a gold mine....Actually, in THIS picture we
are looking at an ASCII photograph, in the cross section, of a MINE
SWEEPER...actually sweeping out the mine....

Actually the artist may be known to Steven Sullivan because I am
reasonably certain that this object was included in his very early
collections of Ascii Pictures.

His collections are available in the archives so someone may like to
start at Collection No. 1 until they find the picture and then ask
Steven Sullivan who the author was. In those early days Steven did
not append artists' names :-)

The intrepid reporters were researching the "WHAZZIT" pictures
presented by Bob Allison, and, as you know, the search led to the
Patent Office. A casual study of the evolution of artificial limb
modifications led us to wonder if we might find something in the
archaeological books, since flora and fauna have been shown to
mutate through the eons, as environmental changes were forced on
them.

It was there we discovered, along with the well known fossil of the
archeopteryx, a fossil of a chicken. It was flattened just like the
fish and birds in fossils, and looked exactly like the picture
above.

Lo and behold, this was an EARLY fossil chicken, designed
specifically for Easter. IT not only contained eggs, but Easter
baskets for the eggs. Further inquiry showed us that the basket was
too difficult to "pass" (our apologies to the more sensitive in the
audience)....too scratchy!

So the chicken evolved as we see it now, passing eggs FOR Easter
where we have to make our own baskets. We know this to be true,
because some chickens still lay blue and brown eggs to save work in
the egg dying process.

The intrepid reporters were researching the "WHAZZIT" pictures
presented by Bob Allison, and, as you know, the search has been very
difficult, and many solutions found. Your reporters formed a
committee and came to a new conclusion:

On further examination, we believe this is a representation of the
first stackable cookware. Notice the handle on the larger pan.
Historically, this was a collossal bomb. The inventors only came out
with two sizes of pan, ( a dutch oven and a custard cup ). The
picture does give a fascinating view of early advertising efforts.
One question does arise. We wonder why they put that coctail olive
with a toothpick in the cup???? Hmmm.

You know, after seeing this picture so many times... I can't believe
it only finally comes to me what this really looks like to me...

It appears, to me. to be a propane light that normally hangs on the
ceiling. My family has a camp in the middle of the Adirondack
Mountains in NY state, and there is no electricity and the only
running water is the brook next to our camp. Every year we have to
drag in a new tank of propane and (probably illegally) drag it
across the river and up the hill to our camp. This looks exactly
like some of the Humphery lighting fixture that were installed in
the camp probably about 50 years ago..

The arm on the left side, is where the propane comes in and where
it's attached to the wall or ceiling, and the little thing to the
right of the arm is where you adjust how much propane is sent to the
light...

Just thought I would throw that in... as the thought just comes to
me.

I know it... it must be that... (+:

Any Oregon parent would know this. It's a baby carriage stuck in the

It is symbolic of the never ending quest for knoweledge and the wisdom
to use it effectively without alienating the strata of human existence
that struggle within society. It represents that ever-so-thin line
between science and personal identity; between philosophy and
self-worth; it is that great question-mark that we, as a society,
collectively wake up to each and every morning. Its simplistic
elegance suggests to us that we must always strive for ever higher
peaks and then span the deep, darkened abysmal valleys of ignorance,
but that we must not lose our faith in humanity, in all its
multitudonousness.

Now, whaddya' say I won?

Actually the artist may be known to Steven Sullivan because I am
reasonably certain that this object was included in his very early
collections of Ascii Pictures.

His collections are available in the archives so someone may like to
start at Collection No. 1 until they find the picture and then ask
Steven Sullivan who the author was. In those early days Steven did
not append artists' names :-)
