A few days ago I sent a request for historic items done in ASCii art. A couple of people asked where they could find samples of the items of was looking for. So here are some URL with sample pictures of items from my wish list. There are other locations to find similar pictures and I'm not necessarily locked into a particular mask/kachina doll/carving...etc. If you find one you think would be better, or you want to make something unique but in the style of...that would be great. This is for a history project at SDSU, for my history 101 class. But considering the objects I was looking for, I thought it might be helpful to get feedback also from archeologist-type people. I just finished coding the Dancing Ganesha into the data base (ascii art isn't as straightforward to code into a computer as it is to type onto a page.). If you would like to see how I'm using it, telnet to guest.musenet.org. Then login as guest. When you get in, ask a mentor to take you to #9471. The Ganesha is there. With luck, I will soon have a pharoah's mask and the Buddha done. It's slow work, but very rewarding. Just grab the entire pic (Make sure that when you read it 'newline' is not an input-separator) and whang! feed it to the big beasty... (Okay, you might need to tell the database that it can expect unusually long strings on that field) I bet you feeding some plain ascii (Which is after all just text) to a database is muuuuuuuch simpler than drawing it.
