TOPOS 1.0 / ART PROJECT / ART WORK

TOPOS 1.0 / ART PROJECT / ART WORK

alt.ascii-art · 1 message · 8 Feb 2002
Topos 1.0 is a creation of 100 studies (painting, installation, video)
bound by one recurrent theme (STAVROSIS) and joined together by a
visual concept. Some fragments of the project follow a path set by the
texts of T.S. Eliot and, more particularly, his work “The Waste
Land ".

Topos 1.0... is a neo-Baroque work... formed by 100 independent
studies bound by one recurrent theme and exposed in a fragmented
scenography

"My work is akin to a neo-Baroque composition because it’s made
of independent works, each of which in their broadest sense allow me
to have a foresight of the final piece"

Giorgos Mavridis was born in Kavala (Greece) in 1969.

in 1990, he left from Athens to go to Brussels. There, he enrolled in
the Royal Academy of Modern Arts and took courses in illustration and
painting (1990-96) which he linked with the training in serigraphy and
courses on "experimental practices" (exploration and research of
minimalism).

Since 1996, his work has combined exploratory new techniques and
expressive forms with the study of archetypes and poetry (Kavafis,
T.S. Eliot).

In 1999, he arrived to Barcelona and started on the Topos 1.0 project.
In 2000, following the hiring of an industrial space (400m) in
Poblenou, he joined with other artists to create DACKS, a workshop for
art and multi-media creation.

All along he has also been engaged with the theatre, producing several
stage designs for the Hllenique Theatre of Belgium (1992-99).

In between, some collective exhibitions .
