Most of us use existing art for sigs from time to time. The above sig uses bits from various places plus my own work. The hat in the sig below is my own. The only thing I don't do is use other people's sigs as my own. That's a no-no. This is what Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable says about Chad
and Kilroy:
Chad. A character whose bald head and large nose were depicted
appearing over a wall and inquiring, "Wot, no [word filled in to suit
the circumstances]?", as a comment or protest against a shortage or
shortcoming. Widely current during World War II, especially among the
forces, Chad provided scope for humorous relief in many a difficult
situation. It was the happy creation (1938) of "Chad" the cartoonist
(George Edward Chatterton). _Cp_ KILROY; _see also_ GRAFFITI.
Kilroy. During World War II, the phrase "Kilroy was here" was found
written up wherever the Americans (particularly Air Transport Command)
had been. Its origin is a matter of conjecture. One suggestion is
that a certain shipyard inspector at Quincy, Mass., chalked up the
