Here are some freebie monospaced fonts worth checking out if you're short on your selection of Fixed-Width Fonts! =========================================================================== Crystal font - Version 4 (This one has slashes in the zeros) http://www.braveidea.com/Font.html --------------------------------------------------------------------------- HyperFont - (also with slashes in the zeros) From web page: The character set is not the "standard" Windows ANSI set. It is the pre-windows DOS character set (aka CP 437), which differs from Windows ANSI in the characters numbered above 128. ftp://www.hilgraeve.com/pub/vendor/hilgraeve/hyprfont.zip NOTE: I just installed this font and it looks really good at 11-point on my screen -- just slightly wider than Andale/Monotype.com fonts and with the more graceful curves, it makes it a nice change from other monospaced fonts. This one is actually fun to read. :) One thing about this font, however, is that the vertical bar character "|" is split in two, but the \/ characters have more of a slant to them than other fonts. Tis the same in MS-DOS. If you enter
type blooblah.txt | more
the output from the type command is fed into more which spits it out a page
at a time.
I always called it pipe cos it's shorter than Vertical Bar. :o)

Why not use FixedSys in Outlook Express? I know you can`t select it from the
list but you can force Outlook Express into using it. Time for the patch
again. CJR, if you wouldn`t mind posting it one more time I'll save it to my
hard drive and post it myself in future! (That's unless you don`t mind me
keep going "Hey, Colin - Post my Patch!") :o)

Usually, when I find a new (to me) fixed-width font, I first post the URLs
here, then I post the binaries to news:alt.binaries.fonts. I'm always on
the lookout for fixed-width fonts as I think the whole concept of
fixed-width is more deserving than the attention it gets with relationship
to variable-width fonts.
People have made comments that reading fixed-width fonts in Agent (and
other newsreaders) is just plain ugly. I guess beauty truly is in the eye
of the beholder because I can't stand reading arial fonts in newsreaders.
I use Lucida Casual for my variable width favorite and Andale Mono as my
regular fixed-width.

I always thought Fixedsys was too heavy. IMHO, it makes the letters too
thick and bright on the screen, so I prefer thinner fonts. I wish I had
like a hairline fixed font with really thin lines, similar to Andale.

Are you speaking of Courier or Courier New? Courier New looks much better
than Courier, though unless my tastes have changed, I really don't care for
Courier New on newsreaders or Web Pages.
