PROPOSAL: alt.mythology.mythic-animals.unicorns

PROPOSAL: alt.mythology.mythic-animals.unicorns

This is a proposal for alt-mythology.mythic-animals.unicorns.
This newsgroup would be dedicated to the discussion of Unicorns. It
would be a place where creatures of all types could exchange stories,
information, ideas, etc. about this animal, particularly (though not
limited to) any original ideas, reasearch, stories, or poems. Unicorn
artwork would remain in alt.binaries and alt.ascii-art groups with
AMMA.unicorns serving as a pointer.

During the period from Dec 13 to Dec 20 I asked people to voice their
opinion on this group on alt.fan.dragons and
alt.mythology.mythic-animals. Out of 18 posts, 16 supported the creation
of the group. On Dec 14 I did a search for the number of posts on the
topic of Unicorns across the entire Usenet community. Below is the
results:

8 posts in the following groups:
alt.atheism, rec.games.roguelike.nethack, rec.games.trading-cards.misc,
alt.cardgame.magic, alt.tv.ally-mcbeal, alt.toys.my-little-pony,
alt.lifestyle.furry, alt.mythology.mythic-animals, alt.fan.dragons

There is an interest in Unicorns but the posts are scattered across many
groups. My reason for proposing AMMA.unicorns is to "pull" the posts
together into one location.
As an example of the support my proposal received during Dec 13-20 here
is a quote:

"First, I have always had a vested interest in unicorns, sparking
partially from my love of C.S. Lewis, and partially from my interest in
my fellow mythical creatures in general. In my time on alt.fan.dragons I
haven't had the opportunity to contact many unicorns. Granted, I haven't
tried alt.mythology.mythic-animals, but were I soley on a quest to
establish contact with unicorns I would rather have a specific newsgroup
devoted to that genus than wade through a large, generalized mythic
animals newsgroup.

Secondly, unicorns are, by my limited experience and reading, a unique
genus and, like dragons, ought to have their own fields in which to
live. They deserve a specialized newsgroup to get together with maximum
efficiency and enjoyability. It is my wholehearted recommendation that
the newsgroup alt.mythology.mythic-animals.unicorns be created."

Please follow up to alt.config so the discussion can be kept in one
place. Thank you for your patience and consideration since this is not
the first time someone has proposed this group.

careful of the dreaded typo. it would be a shame if you put one in the
cmsg and botched the name.

how is this topic not being server in existing groups ?

8 posts does not say much for justifying your group.

you haven't displayed how much justification there is for a newgroup.
you should visit dejanews, do a search for the past 60 days, then page
through the results until you reach a number that says "exactly" how
many posts there have been. (dejanews counter is off. make sure it
says "exactly".)

not necessary. admins are more concerned with an existing need for a
newgroup in the form of how much traffic there is in other groups.

comments like this might actually hinder the group more that help it, as
it does nothing to establish that there is an existing need for this
group.

it's not about justifying a topic by it's worth, or who "might" frequent
a group. it's about establishing that a need already exists for a
topic. either because "many" posts are scattered over several different
groups, or the amount of posts in an existing group are interferring
with other discussions.
