hi all,

been reading (or should i say "viewing"?) this NG for
a while and i thought it was about time to contribute ...

i've been an occasional ASCII artist for some years now;
if you enjoy the picture below i'd love to post some more.

this image was created on my trusty old macintosh SE/30
from 1989, using a software named "ASCII-paint", with some
text edits added here and there.

doing ASCII art i frequently use a blend of techniques; from
conversion of my own icon designs (see my signature below) to typing
manually to the aforementioned ASCII-paint application.

hope ya like it,
frank

Frank, it's a nice eye. But the odd looking S is a non standard
character. Some systems won't see that character. Some systems will
replace it with two or three characters thus distorting your drawing
beyond recognition.

Here is your eye again with the nonstandard character replaced by an S.

There was a long a rather painful discussion about this a few months
back. Here for your perusal is the ASCII character chart:

Note that there are no characters that look like or any
letters with accents.

Naturally, you are all children of the universe and will want to use
characters that are not on that chart; you should feel free to type out
keyboard art using many different fonts and characters. Exchange your
creations with your e-friends via e-mail or put them on your webpage but
PLEASE do not post any nonstandard keyboard art in the newsgroup
alt.ascii-art because not only will you cause and/or receive a lot of
grief, the nonstandard characters you have chosen will not look the same
to other people as they do to you.

Welcome to the group. I look forward to seeing more of your drawings.

[SNIP of the effect of the evil S-er]

Here, an '8' really (no honestly!) looks darker than the 'S'

88888888SSSSSSSS
88888888SSSSSSSS
88888SSS888SSSSS
8888SSSS8888SSSS
8888SSSS8888SSSS
88888SSS888SSSSS
88888888SSSSSSSS
88888888SSSSSSSS

Besides, an 'o' is half an '8'
(that doesn't prove much)

See you, Ojoshiro

When wieved with Fixedsys, it looks much darker,
but courier doesn't make any difference between '8' and 'S'

I loved the pic. but i guess due to the different types of OS people use
you should only use "ASCII" characters.

thank you! well, i have learned that contrary to my
assumption the "" (which i know as "paragraph character")
is not a standard ASCII character at all ... and posted
some more art, hopefully without any such glitches.
