Could someone recommend a program or editor ( for PC, Win 95, or DOS, even LINUX) to create ASCII animation? How do you do this?

I personnaly use Emacs, both under Windows 98 and under Unix-based
system. Though it takes time to handle correctly (many key-sequences to
remember), this program is a must-have for Ascii animation : it allows
"free-hand" drawing, copy/cut/paste of rectangles of text, and has a
rudimentary macro system to automate boring tasks.
If you want to see some sample of work done with Emacs, you can go to

and contact me by e-mail.
I hope it will help you,

Hi,
I like your animations. I think they contain some new vision of ascii
animation, although it reminds me of Star Wars. I don't know if the Star
Wars were done earlier than your cartoons, but it doesn't really matter.
And that's a massive job really.
I tried to find your site few months ago to no avail. Why don't you
include it to the ascii art lists (e.g.
http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/2695/links.htm )?
Also, may I look at the Emacs?
Thanks
