Brilliant! The Hammerhead sub-plot is even funnier than the main joke.

It is for some of us. Mandy to Hammerhead - I'd say your "arty"
experience was due to newsreader program or google groups "inspiration"
via the form of "display screwup" :)

I disagree. It is very obvious. If you look at the original instead of
your quoted (and slightly distorted) version:

                           You're weird, shut up!
                                     `        ___
                           OO         ~--    (oo()
                           ||         .>>-     ||
               ___________ bb ________ || ____ || _______

you will see that there's a little ` character pointing to Mandy, and
the text is centered above her. Her hair is to the left, and her breasts
point to the right, and she is pointing. She is talking to Hammerhead.

       I noticed the "space muncher" after I'd pressed the send. I
hadn't noticed the `backtick' indicating direction of speech though.
Quite why my newsreader munched the spaces, I do not know (mouse-o maybe
- it didn't happen on this quote (as I see it now, while composing). But
the backtick remains near invisible.
       But I still can't see what's "weird" about someone replying
"Really Wow Awesome" to reports of the impending End of The World. If
it's an accurate report, what's the point of struggling against it, lie
back and hope it doesn't hurt too much. If the report is inaccurate,
then interesting questions of the source of the reports, and the
credulousness of the messenger all follow. Awesome.

Why would Mandy need an excuse to call somebody "weird". She's just
being herself.
