We use a thing called "water" to extend the trees life well beyond the
two-week mark. ;-)

Why would it be? When I still lived with my parents, we often kept the
Christmas tree until the end of January or even February. One year we
still had it on Easter. The trees never dried or turned brown, actually
once the tree started growing and we told people we had a flowering
Christmas tree.

:) A little corn syrup in warm water helps out quite a bit then let it 
cool. once cooled down feed the tree. This one got planted an lived, 
till it was snapped from an overlaod of ice due to a storm a few years
later.
