What font settings should be used so that the art will show up correctly,
both here and in e-mail? Everything seems to be a space or two further over
than it should be and the pictures just look like gibberish.
Thanks.
Kathy

The FixedSys font works best. You won't need to worry about spacing
because its always the same. I know someone else can explain this
better and in more detail. I just know it works and go on from there.

Any fixed-width font (non-proportional) will
do... Courier, FixedSys, Monaco, Lucinda Console...

There are regularly posted FAQ information.
REad them-- there is a lot of great info to be
found within them... If you can't wait until
the next one to be posted... go to:
http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/7373/faq.htm

Hopefully this will help... and welcome to a-a-a!

Dear Kathy,
Them two girls, Laura an' Joan, is fillin' you
full of baloney. The best letters fer most asky-type pichers
is Topaz New. It ere kinda old, even if they do call it "New".
But I like it better, most of the time. 'cept I doan allus
like the way it shows the - character. Anyhows, I use it alot,
and them girls din't even tell you 'bout it. That's on account
of they is so mean. Niether one of them even sent me ah ol' invite
to Chris'mas dinner.

No, no, no, you got it all wrong! The best font is called "9x15"
(Netscape calls it "Fixed (Misc), size 14.0").

The differences I see from FixedSys to VK's
font are the following...
-VK's commas have longer tails
-VK's underlines do not connect- long underscores don't occur (they do in
FixedSys)
-VK's apostrophe appears in the opposite direction than the ` character...
 (rather than just a dot)
-VK's pic appears wider in her font
-VK's slashes are at a slightly less angle than FixedSys...

I just downloaded Topaz (my birthstone, BTW) and will compare that one! :)

Unfortunately it takes a bit of effort to get Outlook Express to use
FixedSys. (Nice font, though!)

Try this...

into Notepad (Start > Programs > Accessories > Notepad) and save it as
"oefixedsys.reg" (when in the save as window, type the quotes around it
otherwise it may save as oefixedsys.reg.txt.)

Find the file in Windows Explorer (ie Open 'My Computer', then navigate to
where you saved the file) (it may be on the desktop)

Double-click the file just created, (make sure outlook express isn't running
at this point) and a message will appear saying that the information has
been entered into the registry. When you restart Outlook Express, it should
be in a proper asciiart friendly font.

If you are using multiple users on your computer, using Win95 profiles, this
will change the settings for the currently logged on user only.

** It has not yet been tested in Outlook Express with IE5 Beta! **

>END<

I hear that the patch works a dream... this is a minor revision for anyone
who cares. The patch now changes the setting for the CURRENT user not the
DEFAULT user as it did before. (if that means something to you, and you
understand it... good. If you don`t --- don`t worry!)

CJR >>> If you are keeping my patch on your hard drive somewhere, would you
mind using the new version?

Hope this helps... bye!

I think maybie the reezon that theys didnt menshon Topaz New iz coz it iz
not a standard-type font, that comez withe windoze. It iz a nice font
though... at sizze 11 it looks bezt, and it iz the old Amiga OS2+ Topaz
system font. Krogg haz a vershun that is monospaced, whereas most vershuns
just display monospaced without having the little 'monospaced' code in the
font phile.
