Program for words in ascii

Program for words in ascii

alt.ascii-art · 7 messages · 23 Oct 2000 - 9 Nov 2000
I had a program many many years ago someone had given me so that all you had
to do is type in a word/letters and it would come out in a variety of styles
of ascii design. Does anyone know if this program is still out there or
might know where i can obtain it?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance :)

I never knew the program in the first place, but hoped there would be a
aprogram like you describe out there. The only thing I came across is
called banner (I think) on a Debian-Gnu-Linux platform and that program
came along with the unix printer packages (I think (again)). The only
thing it does is fit a string onto the old fashioned printer paper rolls
(you know what I mean?).
I guess you can can the source code some where and fiddle with it
yourself....

cheers, niels

p.s. If you found the 'real' program I'd be interested :-)

I was thinking .. if someone could run a newsserver then i know of a program that can monitor a
group and f.x send answers to the most asked questions like the one above.
Thats is, send a FAQ to them automaticly.

Also .. if someone could run a exclusive newsserver for just this group people with no acccess to a
good newsserver would have an alternative (also filtering of messages would be an option)

And btw .. to Niels ,
The program you are looking for is called figlet , and several webpages exist that allows you to use
it through a webinterface, it's also availble for download on numerous platforms.

Try http://www.surfplaza.com/figlet/ thats what i use

The program is called FIGLet. CeeJay already posted the URL, but if
you're using Debian you can just do "apt-get install figlet" as root
and be done with it. There are also two(?) packages containing more
fonts that you can install.

There are also plenty of web frontends to FIGLet. Mine can be found
at http://www.sci.fi/~iltzu/cgi-bin/figlet.pl

I seem to have a news server, laying around not doing a thing, no infeed because I dont want to
archive, and manage all of usenet, if you know of a news feed that would serve only this group to
me, we could talk about it.
Cheers
