I don't think there's an official euro cent sign. (Anyone who thinks
differently is welcome to point me to an authoritative page on, say,
europa.eu.int.) However, I've used the American cent sign occasionally
"because it's there", and because both currency (sub-)units have the
same name.

Dunno, there probably isn't one - but at least
http://www.noemedia.gmxhome.de/Euro-Cent.htm gives the idea of a
slashed C (I'm running windows, and the font seems to be verdana), but
it could really be just the charset.

that's just the standard cent symbol used in us, and possibly euro, and 
other currencies

depanding on the font is whether it has a 'slash'(/) or a 'pipe'(|)

Go into Wordpad and type alt+0162 select it and change the font between 
Arial and Georgia (use Courier if you don't have Georgia) see the 
difference?

So in summary, both symbols are correct for the cent.

The font looks like Arial to me. You'll notice that in the character map
image below, the cent symbol has a vertical line through it; it's only
in the running text of the page (which is in a different font) that the
diagonal line appears.

But again, I think the author of the page just picked an "obvious" sign,
but it's not official AFAIK.
