I have released an early alpha version of the new tool:

The program runs on any system with a Java Runtime Environment 1.4 (or
greater) installed (available for free at http://java.sun.com/getjava/).
Unzip the jfiglet01.zip file to a new folder and start the program by
double clicking the jfiglet.jar or by typing
   java -jar jfiglet.jar
on the command line.

I also recommend downloading the current FIGlet Fonts Library from
http://www.jave.de/figlet/fonts.html and installing it into the fonts
folder of your JFIGlet installation (Hint: You also can install JFIGlet
into your JavE installation folder).

JFIGlet is based on the FIGlet engine that was already included in JavE
(http://www.jave.de). It is a standalone application providing more
options than JavE's FIGlet integration.
JFIGlet is freeware and it will be open source soon (along with the
figlet software library).

There are still some things missing in this alpha release and there also
are a few bugs. Please let me know what you think about it and if you
have any ideas for (minor) improvements.
