ah.  I don't know much about DOS newsreaders, but all the Unix readers
I know of will handle crossposting correctly (modulo bugs, of course).

Actually, from reading your description, my guess is that Trumpet does
handle crossposting correctly, but only handles it for groups you're
subscribe to.  Since you weren't subscribed to a.b.p.a before, it
didn't bother to mark them as read there.  (Probably for minor
efficiency reasons.)

So as long as you're subscribed to both groups, you should see
crossposted articles only once.

Cross posting would mean that those who can get access to the new group
(like me) can still see all the nice pictures.
