Question: How to scan image into ASCII art?

We have a need to create many screens of corporate logos to put onto our
computers that have been donated to our organizations.  This is a new concept
for us and we are looking for an easy way to do it.  Our donated computers
are never in Windows, only DOS, so we need to use the ASCII method to display
these corporate logos.  Any ideas?

I found a good place with ascii tools. Programs are compiled and compressed
for different systems, so for PC (DOS) too.

gopher://gopher.wwa.com:70/11/ascii
 go to the directory: "Gifscii for various systems"

     I have just downloaded Macgifscii, but when I tried to use it, send me an 
error: "Not a 87a Gif file". The file was a gif file and I don't know what to do 
now. Does anyone knows what kind of files I have to use. Or what I have to do with 
my GIF files????????

Aaron,
  What it is, is your file has not been saved as the proper type of .gif file
for this function, there are 2 standard types 87a and 89a with interlaced and
non-interlaced versions of each type. They all have their advantages and
dis-advantages.
  If you have Paint Shop Pro (it's available on the WWW), load your .gif file
into it, then use the file pull-down menu, activate the "Save as..." command.
Make sure the file format window on the box that pops up says .gif file. Below
that window is another window that says "file subtype". After changing the file
type to .gif change the subtype to one of the 87a formats. I would try the
non-interlaced first (if that doesn't work you can go back and try the
interlaced 87a). Then hit "OK" to save the file back out. (It will ask you if
you want to replace the old file with the new=press"YES").
  I hope this info helps you out, that's my job.

There are (at least) 2 types of .gif files, gif87a and gif89a. Gif89a is the
more recent standard, and most gifs you find today are in that format. I don't
know what to tell you to use to change gif89a's to gif 87a's.
