Question: How do I Gopher serve my FTP folder?

   As some of you may know, I maintain the Scarecrow's FTP site here at 
ftp.wwa.com.  The folks here at WWA have set up a Gopher server for me, but 
are tremendously busy and do not have time to configure it for me.

   I cannot complain, the WWA folks, Greg Gulik and Dave Vrona have 
already spent time and money providing resources for the newsgroup 
rec.arts.ascii, my FTP site, my Web pages, and now they've added the 
Gopher server.

   Can somebody help me to configure the Gopher server to use the files in 
my FTP folder?  I would be very grateful.  Thanks.

The easiest way is to configure the server at compile time to use the same
gopherdir as the ftp server uses.  You can put .Names files in each subdir
for all the grungy ftp file names to turn them into cool long names.

   The Gopher server is already compiled.  I need to know what I have to 
do to make it work so that users can get files that are in my FTP 
folder.

What is a folder?

The best way to serve files from your ftp dir is to make your (ftp dir=gopher
dir).  Barring that the easiest way is to use symbolic links, but they may
not want to run the server that way.  It is also possible to compose a link
entry that will point at an anon ftp entry.  You do not give a gopher below
so I cannot give you the exact entry.  On some versions of UNIX this will
not work at all.  Here is a link entry (sort of):

Believe me, it really would be better to do it the other way.  It would be
really simple for them to recompile.  Talk to them.
