SURET-CANALE Clowns!

Formed in 1978, Les Matapeste is a company of theatrical clowns based in
Niort, France. Each clown portrays a character in performances both original
and inspired by classics with titles such as "Divine Clownerie" (Dante),
"Matagraal" (Knights of the round table) and "Terraclown" (Robinson Crusoe).
Artist Michel Suret-Canale's involvement with the group has included
scenography, posters, photography, costume and set design in addition to
development of their Website. It is an association that has continued to
this day and is one that he genuinely enjoys. The pictures offered include
portraits, photographs, notes and scene design for Les Matapeste in the
early 1990s. In addition to being the work of an accomplished French artist,
they provide the unique opportunity to see what is involved in the "behind
the scenes" world of theatrical clowns, before the lights and behind the
illusion.
