On UNIX I use PICO, and sometimes VI.

It's a good thing I have my ROT-13 automatic encoder/decoder program!
Just select the text I want, press ctrl-ins, go start -> rot13auto,
and press shift-ins!!! :-)
(BTW, what's wrong with a plain-old remove-this address? Or just
do as I do, and delete 1-3 spams a day? :-)

Spam is a registered trademark of Hormel foods, and is most likeley
not responsible for any of the mass mailings, and the above ascii

I'd ever eat the stuff, it's likeness to canned cat food, in both

No, I think that we just get the same amount of spam. :-)

Whenever somebody emails you and posts to the newsgroup, your address
is out there for all the spammers to grab. When they search for
addresses, they come up with both of ours every time. >:-[

I've heard that people who post in varrious "low-tech" newsgroups get
much more spam, but seeing that we both only seem to post in
programming groups (At least I've seen you in a lot of them), I don't
think that's a factor here. (Also, I'm glad somebody else bothers
to test their postings in alt.test......... :-)

Some Amigas may not have these. In particular, the last two come
with the MagicWB package, and are not standard even though rather
common. Checking my fonts: dir, there are also loads of less common
fonts, many of which monospaced. In particular, some systems have
a font called "ascii", designed specifically for ascii art. Many
comm programs come with a font such as "ibm", which is topaz with
the MSDOS extended characters.

Uh-huh.. "Veronicko Karlsson, ASCII artist extraordinaire" doesn't have the
same ring to it <eg>

Everybody gets the same amount of spam: TOO MUCH.

And it doesn't help that alt.ascii-art is near the top of alphabetical
lists, either--some spammers are lazy. [ moment of silence for
alt.adjective.noun.verb.verb.verb ]

I post to a group that is about programming but any newbie or spammer would
not know just from its name... and I post here..

Most of my spam is sent to my MSN id (sunflash_the_mace) but I never use it
anywhere--It's not in any of my mail or news programs--so i don't know where
_they_ get it--i'm really freaking out now... I made the mistake of
cross-posting a message to a jp.* newsgroup *once*, and now I get spam from
*.tw that's in Chinese or japanese or something.. ugh.

Like I said, that's what I get NOW, I used to get 10-15 a day... :(

:(

(but that doesn't happen very often... Wait! You used the word "ours"?!
As in you sending me an email copy of this post?!? I didn't get such a
copy...)

But there are degrees of too much. You can have a wet floor, you can

All of the spam to me is sent to my REAL address as apposed to my bigfoot

Since ROT-13 encoding my address I have only had 2 pieces of spam.....

Looks like useful additional FAQ material for consideration by the
FAQ author, Matthew Thomas, when he returns from vacation from the Net ?

Or maybe it would be better as a standalone Minifaq, Fonts FAQ, for
regular and frequent posting ?

Addition:

MSDOS: QEDIT, text editor, wordprocessor.

Could you put your ROT13-ed address in your actual message body? OE can
only decode the main body chunk, not the whole kit 'n' kaboodle.

Gotta correct you on a fine point... there _IS_ no MS-DOS 7. That is the
internal version number for the Windows 95 COMMAND.COM. There is,
however, a PC-DOS (by Big 'n' Beefy Blue) 7. Also, EDIT.COM doesn't come
with Windows 3.11 or earlier (or for Windows for Workgroups, for that
matter) but it _DOES_ come with Windows 95. One last thing... a standard
Mac mono font is Monaco.

vi will do just fine on Unix, it's available on (almost) every unix
it might take a little getting-used-to , but hey...don't matter what
unix you visit...there'll always be vi.

I was thinking the same thing Colin...
It could be included in the main FAQ and once it is all
put together with info from all platforms, a miniFAQ would
be ideal!

1. If you do a Windows 95 boot in DOS mode, you are in true DOS 7.

2. EDIT.COM comes with DOS 5.0 and above.

3. Most Win3.1 users have DOS 5.0 or above.
