He stole the ASCII dragon I designed for a friend's BBS called Benden Weyr
(FidoNet 1:140/22.0, sysop Ken Read) back in the 80's.
I just discovered that this person has taken my dragon and put his own signature
and a little added knight in the lower left corner.
Well, he's a damned plagiarist. He didn't even steal the final version, sans
spikes on head, back, and tail (it was based on a spiky dragon from a calendar,
Forgotten Realms or something, I don't remember... might have been Smaug laying
waste in a Tolkien calendar now that I think about it). I removed the spikes
and tail to make it look more like Michael Whelan's Pern dragons.
"His" version is lacking my signature ("BF 89" I think it was) and the tagline
for the BBS on the left. Alas, I lost my copy with the Commodore 64 it was
designed on (via Screen-80) and I dunno if Benden Weyr is still around. Heck,
is FidoNet still around? So...
Here's "his" version. I think there are some spaces missing at and above the
dragon's eyeline, his eye is in the wrong place. He probably munged it to make
it fit a narrower screen or something.

I just had to discredit this fraud. This pisses me off. I found all sorts of
web sites honoring "his" art, most of which included *my* artwork. How many
other pictures did he steal? Adding a little (badly-drawn) knight is not
adequate to switch signatures.
BF (haven't signed my real life initials in a decade but it seems appropriate)
PS: To anyone with a web site showcasing "his" work, I would appreciate it if
you would remove this image, as it is NOT his, not to mention that he broke a
few bits of it, and it isn't the finished version either.
Ack, sorry for the wide text, I set it to wrap at 90 so I wouldn't break the pic, but forgot to manually wrap all my text before I saved.

Well, I think actually I would have been using my spanky new Amiga when I redid it to look more like Michael Whelan's dragons, so it might be on the MSDOS floppies I transferred stuff to when I switched again to a PC. If I can't find those (rather aged) floppies, I'll see if I can track down the friend who ran the BBS and see if he still has a copy.

Last time I connected to it, he had restricted access and was apparently only using it for private messaging with friends, but that was easily 5 years ago. God only knows if he's still there. I sure got out of that bipolar weather hell as fast as I could. :)

Well, I resurrected my old Amiga, long buried in the garage, bought new roms for it so it would actually boot up (amazing what you can buy on the Internet :), and managed to retrieve both versions off of the remarkably-intact hard drive. Note: These were meant for 80x24 DOS screens, so the aspect ratio isn't quite right, at least not in my news reader, and I expected tildes to be at the top of each character cell rather than in the middle. Ah well. Substitute double-quotes for the tildes in a modern font, or look at these in a dos box. :) Here's the original (weyr1.txt): __----~~~~~~~~~~~------___ . . ~~//====...... __--~ ~~ -. \_|// |||\\ ~~~~~~::::... /~ ___-==_ \_-~~- \/ ||| \\ _/~~- __---~~~.==~||\=_ \_--~/_-~|- |\\ \\ _/~ _-~~ .=~ | \\-_ '-~7 /- / || \ / .~ .~ | \\ -_ / /- / || \ / / ____ / | \\ ~-_/ /|- _/ .|| \ / |~~ ~~|--~~~~--_ \ ~==-/ | \~--===~~ .\ ' ~-| /| |-~\~~ __--~~ |-~~-_/ | | ~\_ _-~ /\ Benden Weyr UUCP / \ \__ \/~ \__ Sask_Net Node 22 _--~ _/ | .-~~____--~-/ ~~==. 300/1200/2400bps ((->/~ '.|||' -_| ~~-/ , . _|| -_ ~\ ~~---l__i__i__i--~~_/ _-~-__ ~; \--______________--~~ Sysop: Ken Read //.-~~~-~_--~- |-------~~~~~~~~ Net Coordinator //.-~~~--\ BF '87 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- First time users: REAL names only! I used to call Benden Weyr. All I remember about it was that there were no door games (I was young).
