just random X and Unix tools. I displayed the picture in a window
(xterm or emacs, I forget which). fiddled with the font, then used
"xwd | xwdtopnm | ppmtogif > a.gif" to capture the window as a gif.
then I used "xv" to crop the picture, played with the colors, and
blurred it with a 3x3 convolution mask for a fake anti-aliased look.
took half an hour or so of playing with different options before I
found something I liked.
I would have posted it to alt.binaries.pictures.ascii, since GIFs of
ascii art are exactly what that newsgroup _should_ be about, but my
site doesn't get that newsgroup.
hmm. maybe I should convert it to JPEG..
