How convert bmp to ascii ?

I�m looking for a simple (software-) solution for converting a bmp (or any
other graphic-file) to a grey-scaled ascii/ansi-art (don�t know the exakt
difference).
Any suggestions ?

Ascii = American Standad Code for Information Interchangethe first 126 letters
on the standard character table
A list (Starting from 32 cause the previous ones are control codes except for
tab but I dunno the code for tab right now so I won't do it here ;) (9, 10 or 12
or so ;))

n that's it that's ascii any art done only consisting of these charactersd n
nothing else is ascii art (I guess u can call colored ascii art
"colored-ascii-art" but i think if u add colors it's already ansi (not shure)

Ansi: American National Standards Institue (not 100% shure if this is correct...
I looked it up) it's extend ascii like language specific characters n stuff like
this: � (0176 - normaly a small circle) � (0174 - The R in a circle -
Registrated) � (0169 - The C in a circle - Copyridghted) � (0153 - TM - The last
3 are in almsot every font but this one isn't...)
u can expect to find every ascii char in every standard charset/font but u can#t
except to find every ansi char on every standard charset/font this is why ascii
is umm the way it is ;)

I think also colored ascii in some form is ansi (isn't there this control code
in ansi where u can write a number from 0 to 16 (or was it 15?) behind it and
then get the next char colored... or is this just a mirc feature?


Hope I didn't miss any important stuff and I also hope the Stuff I wrote is
correct ;)
