anyone know about a banner command?

anyone know about a banner command?

alt.ascii-art · 9 messages · 7 Nov 1993 - 9 Nov 1993
Does anyone know how to use the banner command? I've seen a friend use
it , but he refuses to show me how. Is there a nice person out there
who would be willing to share with me this information?

thank you

kelly

Kelly, to use the banner command, type a line of text, like this:

     banner "pull my" "finger"

Then hit your return key. Unix will throw this at you:

 ##### # # # # # # # #
 # # # # # # ## ## # #
 # # # # # # # ## # #
 ##### # # # # # # #
 # # # # # # # #
 # #### ###### ###### # # #

 ###### # # # #### ###### #####
 # # ## # # # # # #
 ##### # # # # # ##### # #
 # # # # # # ### # #####
 # # # ## # # # # #
 # # # # #### ###### # #

     Yes, Unix is truly amazing.

First, find out where it is: whereis banner
(most likely it will be in /usr/5bin)

then just type: /usr/5bin/banner Your Words Here
(if it is in your path you can omit the dir)

>it , but he refuses to show me how. Is there a nice person out there

 Some friend he is. ;-)

On some systems I've seen it replaced with 'bban'
(the better banner program), it will do something like
% bban -tf extra large
way more impressive than that of your friend...

Of course, you get much better results with Figlet:

Some time last month, an article was posted here about Figlet.
If there is interest, I'm sure the creators of Figlet can tell you
