Command line jpeg to ascii converter utility under linux ?

Command line jpeg to ascii converter utility under linux ?

alt.ascii-art · 4 messages · 7 Jul 2003 - 10 Jul 2003
Hello,

I am looking for a command line utility to convert a webcam picture to
ascii text under linux. As this will be scripted, I need a non
interactive utility. I've tried aview and netpbm, but the first is only
interactive, and the second produce very low quality ascii.

Any idea ?

Olivier.

I had the same notion last weekend. Here's how I solved the problem:

1. Find or (in my case) make an image->ascii conversion program.
2. (in my case) Find or make a webcam program that will grab an image and
save that image to a file.
3. Setup a crontab job to first take the picture, then run the converstion,
then upload the file to a server.

I ended up using Windows because I couldn't find Linux drivers for my
webcam.
