IMO, there's nothing valorous, nor fateful or virtuous about faking a snapshot of a historic event and getting a Pulitzer for it though.. but great pose, and great ascii picture ;)

Since it would seem nobody knows the "common virtue", I will
tell you.
On Iwo Jima, the USMC still maintains a tiny detachment of
Marines. Their only duty is to keep the Stars and Stripes
flying, on Mt. Suribachi. It is one of the few flags that
is authorized to fly, twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a
year. At the flagpole, is a simple plaque which reads:
"Uncommon valour was a common virtue in the taking of
this island"...
