But if someone knows how, I'd sure like to know. The only way I can create ASCII art is to do it in Windows Notepad, copy/paste into a new post. It's really not all that difficult. I hold accounts with msn and aol, others in my company hold accounts with netcom, sprynet, gnn, and a couple of local ISPs. I getting ready to add compuserve and someone else is going to add prodigy. This way we have access to all the major services, and can properly help our clients with the one they choose. I am on aol- started as a newbie (or newbee or nubee or whatever) last year. I draw on windows notepad and copy over to the newsgroup here on aol. It looks funky from my end (as all of yours do) but on my notepad and in windows it looks fine. Perhaps what you may request is that if someone is from aol, they not draw their art in 'compose mail' or 'send response'. They should use notepad or something else. Thoughts? Is it that important anyhow? I've only noticed a couple of users who have used the 'odd' spacing of aol. I like the program, but since installing it, I'm having conflicts with my WINRPICOM.DRV. Up until TODAY, AOL did not have a fixed-width font. but with version 3.0, I believe it is possible to format messages with different styles, including different fonts. (Not that I've checked it out myself...)

I find the goof-up newbies, and self-rightious blow-hards embarrassing. BTW- the font used by notepad, dos, unix, lynix, etc. is called 'system' or 'terminal', and it's been around as long as the computer terminal has existed. You can't have written words without SOME font. Most people think of a system or terminal font when dealing with ascii art. A dictionary is not the diffinitive source for internet spelling, grammar or syntax.
I don't care what service people use just as long as they use internet courtesy (the
Windows suggestion for creating ASCII art was good input). It's too bad that AOLers
have many newbies that don't know internet ettiquet, but it's also too bad that 'netters
feel that they must flame them so hard.
Gangs are everywhere, even on the internet...

I think most people hate America Online because it is an online service and they can be restricting (i.e. censor just about everything). Plus, they are seldom economical. For unlimited use, it is about $19.95 in most areas with Internet. AOL is $9.95 a month for 5 hrs and I can assure you I use close to that everyday. Well, at least they're being civil... compared to many of the AOL bashers out there... (myself not having been to kind to AOL either) but you can't blame AOL users for being ignorant when AOL makes a point of keeping people ignorant...
