Ok, I have  request to all the ppl in this newsgroup, or from any
newsgroup or anything.
When you respond to something that someone said, please leave what
he/she wrote, in the bottuon of the e-mail or whatever, but don't delete
it (PLEASE!!!) couse sometimes the respond is not under the e-mail you
responded to, but is alone, like a new msg. 
So often I find myself reading msg, and not understanding a thing.

This is the way it's genearlly done:

Leave _some_ of the message you are responding to (it is perfectly ok to
cut it down a bit, just leave in enough for the reader to understand the
context. It is even considered impolite to quote entire messages,
especially if they are long. You can, if you like, put a mark where you
have cut something out, like this:  <snip>, [ 8< ], *snippety*, etc).
Leave the text you are quoting at the _beginning_ of the post, not at
the end (this makes a more natural "flow" for the reader).

Write responses to specific paragraphs right after those paragraphs (it
is ok to have sequences of quoted text followed by new text followed by
quoted text followed by new text... just make sure it is clear what is
quoted and what is new. It is also a good idea to put a blank line
between paragraphs, especially after quoted text).

An example:

This next line is quoted (as you can see from the  >  character at the
beginning of the line):

Cut away anything that doesn't need to be in the post in order for it to
make sense. Especially, cut away the signature at the end of the old
post!

At the end you can put your own sig, which can contain your name,
contact info, favourite quote, small ascii picture, homepage URL, etc.
The general recommendation is to keep a sig four lines long or less, and
about 70-80 characters wide (or less). This particular "rule" is
generally brutally ignored in alt.ascii-art, which is the only newsgroup
I know where that is not concidered a crime against netiquette.

Damned netscape always gives me a "More text in original message than in your
post" error ... anyone wanna tell me how to fix it? =)

I don't know about Netscape, but in most standalone newsreaders it's
possible to change the character used for attributions (as I have
above) and "fool" the reader into thinking it's all original text.
(In Agent, it's on the General tab in "Posting Preferences" on the
Options drop-down menu.)

Of course, it's set up that way to remind you to only quote the
minimum amount of text necessary to make your point...or to make you
think twice about making "Me, too!" posts.

I recieved this posting to alt.ascii-art ... what does poetry
have to do with ascii-art?

The server can return this error as well, and you can't choose what that
thinks is a quote.

I had this problem posting a 'toon to one of my ISP's local newsgroups
(which have a quote vs new text checker) and it thought the |s down the side
were quotes and refused the post. :o(
