a problem with ASCGIF.EXE conversion program

There was a quick fix for he problem, but I have forgotten that (sorry...) Basically what it boils down to is that in one format the program tries to allocate WAY more memory than it needs because it is reading a number wrong. (Cheesy explanation, but like I said: I'm no expert.) Anyone else remember the article I'm referrig to several weeks ago in alt.ascii-art? Hope this is of some use. Have a good one. I've tried to use ASCGIF.EXE program in my computer.
After normal compilation when I was going to make an ascci image
whith a gif the program start to send me the error message:
Corrupt GIF file
... and since then any GIF give the same error.
There's a special format the GIF image have to respect?
If Yes, what?
If No, Why that error?

Not having used the program I'm not sure, but it could be due to the GIF being in 89a format instead of the older 87a format. (The difference seems to produce absolutely no difference in file-size or image-quality so I'm not sure why it exists). There's bound to be a convertor for the PC somewhere....

I think one of the improvements is you can make the file a little longer in gif 89a to add some text. Besides that, I'm not aware of other changes.

First the good news: There's nothing wrong with your GIFs. Now the bad news: ASCGIF, as posted, is fucked. It reports ALL GIF files as corrupted, whether they're 87a or 89a. I've fixed about 6 or 7 bugs in the code, but there's still a couple of subtle ones in there that I haven't found yet. Someone supposedly posted a fixed version, but it never showed up here. I'm making slow progress on it, because it's some of the most hideous, wretched, unreadable C code I've ever seen.
