Yeah, I know - not a patch on Joaquim's great humour.  And, I know (being a geek
myself) that you can't overclock a processor without opening the machine up.

But I'm sitting here at work on the day after Boxing Day.

I'm not getting paid any more than I would for any other day.

And it's quiet, and I'm bored.

Some computers have voltage/MHz settings in BIOS.

Haven't seen them, myself, but cool.  Do these machines not have safety
regulator devices designed to stop you overclocking too far ?

I once read an online article about a group of students who took on an
overclocking project on an old 33 MHz 486.  Using a freezer (set to be really
cold) and some ice packs, and a dehumidifier, they gradually managed to
overclock this poor old 486 up to about 800 MHz before it got too much and it
melted.

Maybe you could feature that in a Nerd Boy strip  :o)

hugh, afair about pentium II or III premiere, Intel engineers presented
profesionally overclocked original pentium (2 or 3). they used liquid
cooling and a lot of expensive stuff, so whole processor was quite fast,
but i don't remember exact results...

There are no slashes in mailto:links.

You can add one of the slashes - if you haven't thrown it into the
trash yet ;-) - at the end of the address (after pl). This slash
belongs to the URL, but most browsers add it on demand if you forget
typing it.

obAscii: one slash is left to be thrown into trash.

currently, only IE is known for not accepting mailto://
however links, and few more browsers do understand and interpret it
correctly

Yes. Similarly, there are no slashes in news links. That's because the
double slash starts a hostname (as in
ftp://ftp.example.com/path/filename.ext or
http://www.example.com/path/URL), but mailto:pos...@example.com and
news:abc...@example.com don't have a hostname.

If you are specifying a news *server* AND a *group* on that server,
use the format:

news://host.nameofserver.com/name.of.newsgroup

However, if you are just specifying a *group* then use:

news:name.of.newsgroup

browsers *should* accept as much nonsense as possible. That does not
make these things correct if browsers accept them.

Yeah, though some claim that news: is only for message IDs or newsgroups
names and that you need nntp: for server name + group. (See, for
example, RFC 1738, which has news:<newsgroup-name> , news:<message-id> ,
and nntp://<host>:<port>/<newsgroup-name>/<article-number> .) YMMV as to
which syntax is supported by which client.
