See a photo of Broccoli Romanesco which I found on the web (not mine). It is
a cross between broccoli and cauliflower and is a most perfect expression of
FRACTAL in nature. It was created in Italy some time this century (not sure
when). Supposed to taste pretty O.K. too.

Its always good to check your posts for Y2K+1 bugs.  It is one of the
few things I actually do check mine for. =)

You need to have 2 eyes in reasonable good nick to begin with. You then need
to focus your eyes to a point beyond the picture. If you stare at the
picture eventually maybe some characters will begin to overlap, sort of like
seeing in double. Trouble is, to begin with they are probably the wrong
characters. So the result is a blur. But that's cool. It's a start.

If you can get identical adjacent characters to overlap throughout the whole
picture - then you will also be seeing the depth. Somehow the brain find
comfort in this more organised state. It also helps to relax the eyes and
allow them to scan randomly about the picture.

Well that's my non-scientific way of understanding it ;-)

Ahahaha. That counts me out then, I'm blind in one eye. I kind of thought that
would be the case, I cant see anything that claims to be in 3D :)

That's the advantage of having one eye, however drunk you are you'll *NEVER* see
double ;-) Though in this case it's a bit of a disadvantage. Actually, I have no
idea what seeing double is like.

I have always had problems with the Magic Eye things.  Only been able
to see a few of them in my life.  I have disregarded all of these
posts in the past for that reason but I decided to try this one.  Hmm
Didn't work too good with my wallpaper fliping over on the transparent
terms so I jump over to the console.  30 seconds and, BAMM!  It
worked!  Now I am going to go download the other ones.  He he.

Well some things don't work as well in 2D[0].
But to give you an idea I shall try any way in txt because I am too
drunk (and I have a feelin that even if I were sobar) that I can not
render it properly in 2D, so here goes:  imagin one of those rulers
that look like this:

	  /^\
          ) (    (can you guess which ascii art is not going to make

And so if you rotate it there is always the mesurment behind the one
in front of you  that is always slightly distant.  Well the 3D
stereogram that I posted from 1996[1] displays the same concept but
instead of one "level" being more distant you are dealing with 4
levels being more distant than the first and each being more distant
then the one prior to it.  A 3D slide rule on acid if you will.  Very
cool in its effect.  Total props to the original illustrator for this
truly remarkable 3d stereo gram that defies first empressions.  When
you first look at it you are expecting something along the lines of a
sunrise but it takes you by suprise and gives you this totaly[2]
unexpected 3D ruller.  Very inspiring that an ascii art can be viewed
two ways (one sterio gram and one non) and be cool on two different
levels (one for those who have two eyes as well as those who only have
one) and still be cool.

8 levels was an arbitrary choice.
23 levels (12 different) is what I call 3D on acid ;)

That one took me doing a font size shift go get it right.  I think
part of the problem is that the center doesn't pop enough so you end
up with the upper and lower lines having good depth but the center
lines never really come into focus.

It works allright, but it's just harder because of the size, the
down&backward part, which is harder cognitively, and the 'switch' in
the middle, which makes the untrained eye lose focus. Practice makes
perfect though. Btw, did you take your acid?
