Emoticons! School work about them :-)

Hi...

I'm doing a school work about emoticons in my Communication & Medias 
course.  I need to find interesting "ideas" to include in this work, 
like how people communicate emotions easily using only simple 
characters, how this is a kind of language, and so on...  Please let me 
hear any comments you have that I could include in this work, any idea, 
approach, or further reading...  I need to come up with substancial 
material for my research.  BTW: I'll surely present the work in front of 
the class...
