For some reason this years Merlefest has hit home with me. Why this
year and not others? I've gone to BG festivals here and Texas and
Oklahoma and often wondered just where the major talent goes. Oh sure,
some of it is at these show. Not Tony, not Doc, not Jack, not Tut.
Because of other events with kids and school I missed one of my usual
fests this past week. Missing this fest and reading the MF posts
finally made me realize that ALL the major talent is at MF, always. I
have one of the choice camper spots w/full hook-ups at my usual
April/May festival. I am very temped to let it go back to start
attending MF with all my friends. Merlefest has got to be the one to
set the standards for all other festivals to try and live up to. I
guess what really hit home with me is, where else can a black man play
guitar on a bluegrass stage with the worlds greatest dobro player and
everyone love it? It looks like love of a common medium, music, will
help us unite our people at last.
