Welcome to the helpfile for the Figlet server figlet at ottime.chi.il.us,

This server accepts commands much like a listserv does, and produces
the result the server user desires. Commands must be the first word
on the line.

Avaialable commands:

FONTLIST           - Returns a listing of figlet fonts on the server.     
SETFONT fontname   - Makes 'fontname' the current Font, if it's on the server.  
GETFONT fontname   - Send the 'fontname' figlet font file back via email.
                     so you can add it to your figlet fonts library.
ADDFONT newfont    - Add a New Figlet Font to the server.
%%FONTEND%%        - Used to Declare the end of a Font File.
PARA_MODE {ON/OFF} - Turns on and off Paragraph Mode.
COLUMNS value      - Sets the column width to 'value' columns.
SMUSH value        - Sets the smushmode to 'value'.      
CENTER {ON/OFF}    - Turns on and off then Centering.
RESET              - Returns ALL settings to Default Values.
HELP               - Returns this Help file.
%%TEXTSTART%%      - Used to signify beginning of text to be figletized.
%%TEXTEND%%        - Used to signify end of text to be figlitized.

Figlet is a program that creates large characters out of ordinary
screen characters.  figlet can create characters in many different
styles and can "smush" these characters together in various ways.
figlet output is generally reminiscent of the sort of "signatures" many
people like to put at the end of e-mail and UseNet messages.  Some
example figlet output is given below.

paragraph mode -- eliminates some spurious line breaks when piping
                  a multi-line file through figlet.

Other info desired about fonts can be added to the listing if you
would like, such as height without descenders, hardblank value,
max line length, default smushmode, number of comment lines, and rtol

Sidenote: Figlet program in use is amiga figlet2.0p0 for this server.

SETFONT 3x5

Above would set the current font to 3x5 and will remain that font until 
changed for the email message, the default font is standard.flf

GETFONT term

Above would send back via email the term.flf that i have here on site. There
may be a problem especially with this font when your email conection to
me is not 8 bit clean. No Uuencoding is done, but it may be an added option
in the future. Your Feedback will determine if this is implemented.

Above would add the font named bubbly to the system if it does not already
exist in the font listing. This is an unfinished feature as of yet. I need
some input on what the really fatal errors output by chkfont are. I've 
noticed some flf fonts still work even with some errors. Until I can automate
the adding of fonts this function sticks the new fontfile in an incoming dir
for adding after I check the font. This also may not work for all fonts that
have 8 bit data, there may be a way to do uuencoded recieves, but it is 
doubtfull.  The %%FONTEND%% Declares that the line above it was the last line
of the fontfile. The Font file should begin on the line right after ADDFONT.

PARA_MODE
PARA_MODE ON

Both Of the above will turn on paragraph mode.

PARA_MODE OFF

The above Turns off PARA_MODE, Default for PARA_MODE is OFF

COLUMNS 75

The above would set the Column width to 75, the only limit to the size is the
size the figlet program can handle. Default Setting is 80, doing a 
COLUMNS
would set the width back to 80.

SMUSH 1

The above would set the SMUSHMODE to 1, Default SMUSHMODE is that of the
fontfile in use

SMUSH

The above would turn off any previous SMUSHMODE settings.

CENTER 
CENTER ON

Both of the Above will Turn on centering. Centering is based on the current
COLUMNS seting, which is by default 80.

CENTER OFF 

The Above Shuts OFF the CENTERING

%%TEXTSTART%%
Your Text To Figletize
%%TEXTEND%%

The Above will take the Text between the %%TEXTSTART%% and %%TEXTEND%% and
run it through figlet with the current settings. 

RESET

The above sets all settings to the Defaults.
