Help on viewing *.asc files

Hello all,

I have following the posts on this group for about
a week. I am quite surprised on how well some of 
the ascii art is done. I do have a question that I
have not seen asked (or if it has, I must have 
missed it). It pertains on how to view the *.asc
files. If there is a faq on this subject, could
someone direct me to it or possibly e-mail it to
me? If there is a program that I would need to
use, could you also direct me to the place where
I may find it?

*.asc files are just plain text files, with a different extension to
separate ascii files from other text files.
I always name mine *.asc because this is convinient for me.

You can always renaming the files, but they stay the same anyway.

If you're using Windows, try renaming the file.asc to file.txt,
and double-click it in the file mangler. (hehehe).

It should open the file into Notepad.

I view them the same way I write a text file, with your dos editor..

Hi Joan, 
  I use Notepad Plus. It handles very large file sizes. I dumped Notepad
for xmas. NP is free to download. I like it. I can change fonts and sizes
and colors with it too. Sorry I didn't tell all my friends, oops.

I've seen a couple of webpages of this type (as they are normally *.html or
*.htm), I think at the Largest ASCII Site or something like that it was
called. My browser, MSIE, just shows them as plain text files, like it
would a *.txt page (.asc must mean "ASCII" text, whatever the difference
is).

If you mean the ones that Display creates, just change the ".asc" to a
".txt", and use Notepad or MS-DOS Editor.

But only if you have the the asc. files associated with Notepad.  If it is
large, notepad won't be able to handle it and you then must use a
different editor.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try them after downloading a
few from this group.
