Celia has a program called "Analia" that I gather works at
http://members.xoom.com/albertopsq/

I have made a template (no program though) for javascript
ascii-animations (version3 and up)
http://www.crosswinds.net/~llizard/animlesson.htm

No doubt there is a program out for the javascript ascii-animations that
work on version 4 and up browsers as well and perhaps there is a program
for the java ascii-animations too?

obascii: "one of these days we might even upgrade past our antiquated
NS3 so that we can see the amazing version 4 animations"

That is nice and I guess I will need that too, but a little later. What I am
searching for now is a not-so-simple editor. Something beyond notepad,
something
that would allow me to 'draw' and easily move one frame forward/backward and
hopefully even to view a preview.

You can do all that in any text editor.....

To move each frame up and down, just resize the text editors'
window to the size of the frame you are using....

lets say you got a framelike so:

,-------.

`-------'

just scrunch up the editor's window to fit the frame,
and you can use [page up] and [page down] to scroll
the animation....If you dontlike the timming then you can
change your keyboards autorepeat delay a little....

Llizard,I hadnt been to your site in a while....
I see the animation lessons are updated...Cool.

I am learning a bit about javascript so i can
compress the script for large animations.I hope
I eventually contribute _something_...Its been
longtime since i have worked on ascii-animations.

[][ hi ...

i have put together a little web-page that puts a mini-javascript
wrapper around ascii-animation pics for use on Mozilla/3.0 browsers
and up

i made it last year originally to perform array formatting and
char escaping and have been using it to do so ever since

it is very simple and useful to me and i decided others may also
find it of use

i then had the idea to add a javascript wrapper and a preview function

it originally worked ok on both win9x and linux but i've revised
and twiddled it and haven't checked it lately
it is not finished yet and seems to have difficulty on macOS
so your mileage may vary

 http://www.shieldwolf.demon.co.uk/anim/test/aform.htm - 12Kb

you may find it helpful

BTW most if not all the ascii-anims you see are usually handmade

these are the stats. from my original draft-version:-
