Photos to ASCII

I am very new to ASCII, please be gentle with me. 

I am under the impression that there is a program that can take a
scanned image and turn it into ASCII.

I would like to try that, please give me step by step simple
instructions of the process or where to go to learn.

Hi, Download one of these and fiddle with it until you get a few questions
and then ask the group (alt.ascii-art) the questions. Put the name of the
converter in the subject line and hopefully helpers will be reading the
group that are gurus in what converter you are using.

Well this certainly doesn't work.
But the truly best program for mac, which just has been released
is Email effects.

It's great for Ascii conversions, ascii-editing drawing.
It even converts your installed fonts to ascii on the fly!

PC users can just dream about getting their hands on this!
