You have to encode it Cyrillic (KOI8-R). Then it says: Pryedlagayu oborudovaniye dlya izgotovlyeniya tsyerkovnykh svyechyei "OCPTs-5M", nye imyeyushchyego analogov v Ukrainye !!! But don't ask me what that means. I gave my Russian dictionary to my last boss when I left the job. > Try English, or German. Well, Windoze95 contains fonts which will render chars >= 128 as cyrillic, Specifically ER Bukinist KOI-8, and ER Kurier KOI-8 fonts. On my newsreader just use Options|Fonts to set one of these fonts. Outhouse Distress is a heap of crap & I'm not sure it can change font. |~/ |~/ ~~|;'^';-._.-;'^';-._.-;'^';-._.-;'^';-._.-;||';-._.-;'^';||_.-;'^'0-|~~ P | Woof Woof, Glug Glug ||____________|| 0 | P O | Who Drowned the Judge's Dog? | . . . . . . . Yes, Outlook lets you do it - in a message preparation window, before sending, you MUST tell OE that it's Cyrillic and not Western: Format/Encoding/Cyrillic(KOI8-R) Then your text will be sent with correct system header Type: text/plain; charset=KOI8-R" By the way, one should *not* use in Outlook Express (or Netscape 4+ or Internet Explorer) those old, made for Windows 3.1 KOI8-R fonts mentioned here (BTW, they are NOT a part of Windows 95) - first, there is NO need to use them (Outlook Express reads and sends Cyrillic perfectly while using standard Windows fonts such as "Arial"), and second, the Cyrillic message sent having Western in 'charset=' is bad and will not be readable in many, many cases. Cyrillic message should announce itself as Cyrillic (as was shown above). Detailed information regarding Windows, fonts, and Cyrillic can be found on my site "Cyrillic (Russian): instructions for Windows and Internet": http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/PaulGor/ where fonts (including those old ones - some programs do need them) are discussed in Chapter 1 of my browser-related section. -- Regards, Paul Gorodyansky "Cyrillic (Russian): instructions for Windows and Internet": http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/PaulGor/

In the absense of that American and Western European programs choose ascii and its extension iso-8859-1. Does anyone know, though, how to get Outlook Express (5.0) to declare a different charset than those two in it's header? Because I told it that my last post in the thread is supposed to be Cyrillic, and it displayed it Cyrillic, it had no charset information while still in the outbox, yet when on the board it still had the good old "Content- Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1" in its header. Of course I'm not interested in Cyrillic a lot. But being able to en- code one's posts Unicode might be useful occasionally. _ __ ,-----' | _ <'__`) _________ | // : | -' )6 \\ ___/ \ | // : | --- \>_;` `-.
