WHAT IS IT:

Ascii Pics allows you to draw pictures just like any other paint program
but instead of pixels, ascii characters are placed at the cursor position.
It could also be used as a VERY simple text editor but because it is
designed for drawing you would be better off using a proper one for that
purpose.

FEATURES INCLUDE
----------------

 - Fully functioning Status Panel. Just click on the button to choose the
desired function or press the keyboard definition.
 - Load and Save any ascii file. If the file is out of the range of 80 chars
by 500 lines high it will be cut to fit. The amount of lines that have
been loaded/saved will be displayed. It can also Load/Save with LF Only
   or CR+LF codes.
 - Cut and Paste blocks. Blocks can be the size of one screen and can be
flipped horizontally and vertically before being pasted anywhere on
screen. Also a Block Mask can be placed on them to have 'gaps' in them.
 - Freehand, Straight Line Drawing Mode. Draw on the screen just like any
   other paint package.
 - Ellipse, Circle, Box Drawing Modes. Can also draw these shapes hollow or
   solid.
 - True Typing Mode. Works just like a very simple text editor.
 - Replace Mode. Replace all of one character on screen with another.
 - Fill Mode. Fill in areas of the screen with ascii characters.
 - Clear Screen. Either clear the whole 500 line screen or just the current
   screen with any character.
 - Move Picture. Move the current display about by one character.
 - Scroll Picture. Scroll straight to the top or bottom, up or down a line
or page at a time or to the first or last lines that have been drawn on.
 - Help Mode. Displays the key definitions for the various functions in case
you forget. Also displays free memory.
 - Configures itself to run on PAL or NTSC displays. The Status Panel is
displayed at the bottom of the screen out of the way on a PAL screen. In
NTSC mode it can be removed completely from view or scrolled up and down
   the screen.
 - Palette toggle. Display the screen as black on white or white on black.
 - Co-ordinates toggle. The current cursor position can be viewed on the
Status Panel or removed if you don't want it.
 - Swap Screens. Two screens are stored in memory. One could be used for
rough work or different pictures could be created on both.
 - Undo. If you mess something up the last drawing operation can be undone.

HOW TO GET A COPY
-----------------

Just E-Mail me saying you want a copy. Simple as that. It's FREEWARE so
you don't need to feel guilty about using it and not sending a Shareware
fee. All I do ask is after using it for a couple of days tell me what you
think and if you find any bugs or if there is anything you'd like added or
improved. Also if you are interested in getting updates then please tell me
what E-Mail address you would want me to send them to.

USERS OF PREVIOUS VERSIONS
--------------------------

If you didn't like previous versions then try this version out. I think
it's a lot better (particularly from really early versions). The screen
update is a lot faster since v1.60, there's no constriction to single
screen pictures AND you don't need to remember those key definitions (apart
from Move Screen and Scroll Picture) if you're lazy (like me!)

Thank you for reading this announcement. Have a nice day.

PS. Please remember this is an AMIGA utility. It has been developed on an
A500+ but there shouldn't be any compatibilty problems with other models.
If there is then E-Mail me and I'll try and fix it.

PPS. If you like Ascii Pics and draw a picture using it and post it in a
newsgroup somewhere then send me a copy (or tell me where it's been posted)
or mention Ascii Pics in the posting, if it isn't too much trouble.
