Back in the golden olden days of computers, there were no graphics commands.
So people made up pictures on computers using letters and symbols for the
varying intensities of light.
Around this time, a certain method of producing 3 dimensional pictures became
popular. Invented in the 40s, it achieved prominence around 1960.
So what's new.
