How To Create Ascii Art?

Hi! I am new to this newsgroup. I am fascinated by all the ascii art that's been posted in this newsgroup. I am just amazed at how text can be used to create such extraordinary works of art. I have been told by someone I know that there are certain softwares that can be used to facilitate the creation of such works. Could someone be so kind as to direct me to some of the software that are used for such purposes? Any help is deeply appreciated. Thanks.

That's what happens if you forget the "Enter" key. :) Well, I just discovered this group this morning, but maybe you might be interested in a program called TheDRAW, which is designed for the creation of ASCII/ANSI pictures. It's got a lot of colour-related pictures, but it can save to pure ASCII. If you can't find TheDRAW, (www.shareware.com might be a good place to start; probably all these other people have it as well :) then with a little mucking about, MS-DOS Edit works very nicely as well. I'd recommend the one from Windows 95, but the DOS 5 or 6 version would do nicely as well. Just out of interest, the Windows 95 Edit *will* work on DOS 6. Or 5, probably. Not that you should pirate the one good feature of Windows 95, of course. Definitely (?) not. Out of the question. :) Tim Allen P.S.
