gif to ascii conversion

I used to be into ASCII art a few months ago, but I kinda lost interest. 
Now I deleted all my ascii art creating progs! Does anyone know the name 
of that program (for mac) that is a unix port of a gif->ascii creating 
program? It was a text based unix port. Can anyone help me out?

Hi all,
Some time ago I downloaded a freeware or shareware package that would
convert a GIF to ASCII art. It was originally designed by a Chinese-American
fellow to convert Chinese characters to ASCII. It allowed you to select the
characters it used to form the value ranges ( a la Allen Mullen). The
program worked quit well with some images and required only some adjustment
after conversion. In a moment of haste I deleted it and now find myself
needing it. Can anyone direct me to somewhere I can download it or purchase
it?

P.S. Apologies in advance to any purists I may insult with this message. I
have full respect to anyone who creates ASCII art from scratch.

Graphics Workshop does the same thing...
