Hi Ascii-ites

I am wondering if any ascii lovers reading might be able to offer me
some advice on an artist's ascii animation project I'm managing and
having difficulty finding a technical solution for?

My name is Maria Percvial and I work for FACT, Foundation for Art and
Creative Technology, Liverpool, and I the project I'm working on is
called STREAM & SHOUT, a rolling programme of net radio and sms artist
led web based projects for young people in Liverpool.

One of our lead sms artists, Gaylie Runciman, has proposed a really
interesting ascii animation based project, which we're having terrible
problems finding a technical solution for.

Its a DIY ascii animation for mobiles project.

The artist would like to teach kids how to create their own sms ascii
animations for mobile phones which doesn't represent too much of a
problem but theGaylie's aims don't stop there.

Gaylie would like the kids to be able to upload their finished ascii
animations to a dedicated web gallery where kids will be able to
credit their work and trade it, discuss development techniques and
allow ultra lo cost downloads. We may be able to solve free downloads
but not the conversion codes from web to mobile and mobile to web.

We really need a scroley editor or a web application that will
approximate that, the whole point being that we create a democratic
DIY ascii animation for mobile on-line tool. We don't have the budget
to get a scroley editor developed for us and none of the corporates
that already have them will release them for non revenue generating
uses.

As an alternative I've decided to look into the wonderful world of
ascii artists, coders and enthusiasts for a possible solution.

I am wondering if anyone could advise. Anybody out there with
experience in the ascii web to mobile field or anybody know someonw
who has? Anyone come across any free to download editors or able to
suggest a possible research direction?

Any light you might be able to shed would be much appreciated. If we
can find a fellow artist or entusiast for Gaylie to work with and by
pass involving corporations all the better.

Thanks all for your attention

Best wishes

Maria Percival
