Thanks for your long and detailed reply, even if it didn't answer the question.
I think I've seen several images converted with this same algorithm - decent
"shading" but the edges use weird characters like ; and there's no antialiasing.
I doubt it's done with ATI's gfx card drivers. The image is in JPG format
because it was submitted to a gfx site.
