Ah, Ascii is just a way of representing text. Ascii art is art created with text that conforms to the Ascii standard. This means that there are limitations on the character set. The limitation on text placement is introduced by the character based terminal, and the fixed width font is heritage from the older days when those terminals were common and proportional fonts weren't common with computers yet. Fixed width is also a necessity for easy portability of Ascii Art. This way it can be viewed with any terminal or line printer that conforms to the Ascii spec, and has a fixed width font. A book might at some time been in Ascii format when the author's word processor saved it to disk, but when it's a book, it's in print and no longer ascii in that sense. Ascii (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) is just a standard that describes how certain 7-bit numbers are translated to characters in computer terminals. >Otherwise, progress has already taken hold and there >will be no stopping it, however painful this may be! Ah, I have no pains with development even though I still love my Amiga and don't own a wheel mouse.. >The rest is not worth debating. > >Regards >Martin >PS open your mind just a little., and let the light in. Hehe, don't get me wrong. I have nothing against people doing modern art with text.. Ascii art on the other hand is what I described before. We're here for the challenge. oh, ps. it's really ASCII but it's a long acronym so I prefer to capitalize only the first letter, which is the Wrong Way of doing these things.. :-) ObAscii Ascii code 0x20 (the Space character :-)
