I remember Outlook and MS in general were not very ascii friendly. You may need to look online for a way of changing to fixedsys or some other ascii font. There were a lot of posts here last year from people using Outlook who couldn't change the font to look at ascii art. I use Free Agent, or its evil twin Agent.
