Or get simple shareware/freeware word processors like Qedit; Galaxy etc
which use fixed fonts as their default. You can locate them by a
simple word search in Web search engines like www.altavista.com and
www.yahoo.com and find a convenient FTP or Web site where you can
download them.

A simple word processor has many more useful features for ascii 
artwork than Notepad and DosEdit, and clunky technical things like 
Emacs or complex wordprocessors like Word and Wordperfect which are
bloated overkill utilities for ascii artwork.

I use PC-Write 2.55 dated 1986 and PC-Write Lite dated later with 
some extra useful features but Quicksoft got financial woes and sold
PC-Write and it is now hard to find. The last version 4.0 was far 
too complex and that's why it failed in the end. The two versions I 
use are "Golden Oldies"...sone programs may be old but they are 
still pure gold and eminently useable even in today's world of 
Pentiums and Windows NT.
