So we've noticed.  Nothing wrong with that, though.

So do I.  And the way to go now is to Options... -> Send -> News send-
ing format and to check "Plain text."

The next step is to go to Options... -> Read -> Fonts... -> Propor-
tional font and to pick a fixed-width font in the pulldown menu.

(I use Lucida Console.  Try it if you have it.  Pick one you like
yourself, though)
